Piedra Fina Resturant
Marlborough, NH
For the past decade the owners of Piedra Fina have invested in the revitalization of Marlborough, NH, with an internet cafe, breakfast restaurant, a laundromat, several residential units and a hardware store. Now they have brought Latin cuisine to town. The renovation transformed a bulky old building along highway 101 into a “mid-century modern” 64 seat Restaurant with a boldly creative yet authentic Latin American menu. We decided to be equally creative with the building’s design. In transforming the hulking old dog of an edifice, we set out to echo the jet-age imagery that infused car design in the middle of the 20th century. Turning the building into something suggestive of mid-century modern–by way of Miami–began with the addition of a zip of I-beam side trim, generating the warped plane tail fin entry canopy culminating in a unique, dynamic and innovative architecture.
