THE FLETCHER SCHOOL OF INTERNATIONAL DIPLOMACY

The Fletcher School of International Diplomacy (of Tuft’s University) requested a concept for a new campus in Abu Dhabi. The center consists of three buildings: The Sheikh Zayed Center for Global Affairs, an Academic & Library building, and Student Housing. The library and Student Housing flank the Global Affairs Building.
In the UAE, buildings often take on symbolic shapes of the local culture. It was suggested we derive our inspiration from the dhow ship; as it sums up what made the country, in their minds. The Sheikh Zayed Center for Global Affairs, as the GLOBE, surrounded by a reflecting pool. The DHOW shaped Academic/Library and the Student Housing buildings orbit around the globe.
